EV Charger Installation

Charge at Home.
Wake Up Ready Every Morning.

More Twin Cities homeowners are making the switch to electric vehicles — and the first thing they need is a reliable Level 2 charger at home. Here's what you need to know, and how Integrity Electric makes it simple.

Why a Level 2 Charger Changes Everything

The standard 120V outlet that comes with your home — what the industry calls a "Level 1" charger — adds roughly 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. For most drivers, that means plugging in overnight and waking up to a partially charged vehicle.

A Level 2 charger runs on a dedicated 240V circuit, the same voltage as your dryer or electric range. It delivers 25 to 37 miles of range per hour depending on the unit. Most EV owners charge to full in 4 to 8 hours — overnight, every night, without thinking about it.

What the Installation Actually Involves

Every installation starts with your electrical panel. We check whether you have available breaker slots and enough overall capacity for a new 40- or 60-amp dedicated circuit. If your panel is full or undersized, we'll walk you through the options — including a 200-amp service upgrade — before any work begins.

From there, we run the wire from your panel to the garage, install the outlet or hardwired charger mount, and test the circuit. Most straightforward installations are completed in a single visit. We pull the permit, handle the inspection, and leave you with a clean, code-compliant setup.

Choosing the Right Charger for Your Home

There are two common Level 2 configurations. A NEMA 14-50 outlet is a versatile 240V receptacle that lets you plug in any portable EVSE (the cord that came with your car, or an aftermarket unit). It's a flexible choice if you plan to switch vehicles or want portability.

A hardwired Level 2 charger — typically a 32-amp or 48-amp unit — is permanently mounted and wired directly to the circuit. These units are faster, cleaner-looking, and often preferred for daily drivers. Popular brands like ChargePoint, JuiceBox, and Emporia all work well in Minnesota's climate.

Not sure which is right for you? We're happy to talk through your vehicle, your garage layout, and your daily driving habits before recommending anything. There's no pressure — just honest advice.

Minnesota Rebates & Incentives

Federal tax credits and Xcel Energy rebates can offset a meaningful portion of your installation cost. The federal EV charger tax credit (Form 8911) currently covers 30% of equipment and installation costs up to $1,000 for residential customers. Xcel Energy also offers rebates for qualifying Level 2 charger installations. We recommend checking with your tax advisor and utility provider for the most current figures — these programs do change.
